I don’t have any pictures, except for one of Anthony sitting in bed in a big white robe drinking coffee which I have been banned from posting because he is too shy (no nudity but he looks like a Bond villain!), BUT sorry long sentence Anthony and I went to York the other weekend and had a great time. We stayed at the Hotel Du Vin and I have to say the website doesn’t do the place justice. Our room was really comfortable, lots of trees and very peaceful. In the main house was the bar (had a great Mandarin Negroni) and real ale on tap for those who care.
We didn’t eat at the hotel, we read mixed reviews – although I am surprised because we had breakfast the next day and it was brilliant. Instead we walked down the road to Melton’s and had a really outstanding dinner. Maybe I am an ignorant Australian but who would have known you can eat like this in York?
This was my starter – Chicken liver pate with grapes and walnuts.
Anthony’s salmon. I cant remember – I have a feeling there was horseradish involved.
Woo hoo. I had Hake, celeriac, hazelnuts etc. Delish.
But check this out – Chicken, parsley mash, pickled apple, black pudding and cider gravy. I think Anthony won. Even with the black pudding.
Anthony’s coconut rice pudding
A delicious lemon souffle with a second rate lemon curd ice cream. Had it been elderflower I think I would have been very happy. The souffle was TALL!
